“MARCH” Member Profile…….MaryBeth!!!

We all at CFSWB couldn’t be more proud of MaryBeth. Several of you may NOT even recognize her anymore….she not only looks different but she has been walking with a “skip in her step!!” Hats off to you, MB, for working so hard. YOU LOOK AMAZING!!

I heard about CrossFit a few years ago through my friend, Sheryl Schultheis.  I tried a class with her and liked it well enough, but, at that time I was having trouble with back spasms.  I was referred by my doctor for 6 weeks of Physical Therapy.  After completing the PT, I would go through phases of working out, but wasn’t consistent or overly motivated.  Last year was the first year that both of my children would be in school all day, and I thought that would be ‘my’ year to get myself on track and healthy, and accomplish all of those things that I hadn’t been able to for a few years.  Well, at the end of that year, I found myself overweight, out of shape and pretty unhappy.  I knew I needed to do something.  While I was intimidated by CrossFit and afraid to hurt myself, I had heard and seen the results of CrossFit, I signed up for 3 months.

I started on August 4th.  The WOD was the “Filthy Fifty” that day.  Laura was very kind (and smart) and made it “Terrible Twenty-Five” for me.  I was very sore the next day and many more to come, but I kept coming back.  It was so motivating for me to see my progression, I was getting stronger and faster.  I think the biggest turning point for me was when I got the kipping pull up on November 14th.  Melissa worked with me on the technique and I did it!   I was so thrilled about that, I think I smiled for 2 days straight!   That accomplishment really gave me a boost, and I felt like I could really do this CrossFit thing.  I was hooked!

The environment at CrossFit SW Beaverton is also what keeps me coming back.   There is a CrossFit closer to my home, but, this is home to me!  I am mostly in classes with Melissa and Laura and Holly on Sundays.  They have allowed me to progress without injuring myself and have encouraged me to grow as much as I have.  I have made so many new friends here, it feels like family to me.  It’s always a bright point in my day!  The other members are so supportive, encouraging and motivating.  There have been numerous times where people who have finished their WOD, will come over and tough it out with me while I finish my WOD.   The camaraderie is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

I have lost about 25 pounds since starting in August, I feel great and am in probably the best shape of my adult life.  My children take the kids CrossFit classes with Parisjat and love it (and her) as well.  It’s fun to pick them up from school and tell them my accomplishments that day.  They know the exercises that we do and they understand how hard we work, so it’s a fun thing to share with them.    The workouts are never easy and I still get sore, but, that tells me CrossFit did it’s job.  I also love that the workouts are never the same, always something different, always working different muscles.

I will be forever grateful to Laura, Melissa, Holly, Parisjat and of course, SHERYL, and all of my new workout buddies.  Thanks to all of you at CrossFit SW Beaverton.  I feel like you’ve all given me my life back!
